A MESSAGE FROM THE RECTOR OF “FAN S. NOLI” UNIVERSITY

I am honored to wish you welcome to the internet site of our university, the highest educational institution in Korca region, which is named after one of the greatest personalities of our national history and culture, Fan Noli. Through this site , we reveal to you, what Korca and our university offer to the young generation, in and out of Albania, interested to know about and study in our university.
Our university has inherited the best experience of Albanian national education, the intensive and passionate work of numerous generations of pedagogues and students, who have cultivated the academic values of teaching and research work. We manifest this history of values as a treasury of what the next generations are inheriting.

The University of Korca has got an experience of 37 years. In years, it has had many new faculties and programes, a highly qualified academic staff and more and more students, year after year. Living in a town, where the basement of national education has been thrown, we think, we are ready to make the prominent profile of a public university, welcoming students of the region and out of it, facing the challenges of the future in a very prominent and competitive way. We are very sure of it, because our staff works hard towards a higher quality and the accrediting of the university, in a very near future. This academic year, we have made enormous steps regarding great reforming and integrating  programs of our university and have brought many changes in the infrastructure, all affecting the modernization of the teaching process and development of the research work.

Bologna Declaration is now part of our daily program and we are properly respecting the Law of High Education, this way integrating Korca’s university in the European Space of High Education.The new elected authorities are effectively working to give this university a contemporary dimension, increasing the quality and the qualification of the academic staff. Our University is being introduced in a new performance in the national and international world.
Hundreds of students are actually studying in the study program “Master of First Level” in the Faculties of Education and Agriculture. In a very near future, our efforts will be finalized in higher programs of study. I do ensure the students that they will find here, what they have wanted and dreamed: a qualitative level of study and education, a well qualified staff, contemporary educational and relaxing.
We are strongly attracting near our university the highest intellectual potentials of the entire region and at the same time we promote the best students as future potentials of our university. We are actually integrated as members of the BASILEUS program and in many other programs with universities abroad.
A very important process, as integral part of our mission, is the research work. The academic staff and the students have shown an increasing interest for integration and cooperation in the research projects.Of a great value is what the editorial staff of the university has done in its mission. Our ambition is to increase the number of the pedagogues on scientific degrees and titles, this way, respecting in all capacities the Law of High education.Korca’s university will get bigger and wider. It has got all the chances to be an important educational, scientific and cultural centre of constituting the future specialists and scientists and shaping them with the high values of democracy and civilization.

The greatest and oldest mission of every University is well-expressed in the famous Virgil’s saying “alma mater”, which means “nourishing mother; fertile mother; the one who has breast-fed me; the one who nourishes spiritually”. The essence of this remote mission is still relevant nowadays. It is well expressed in the High Education Legislation, where it is written: “University should create, transmit, develop and support knowledge via teaching, scientific research and services”. This university is our common “home” and we have to struggle a lot to make it stronger so that “this home” will survive through hard times. Our aim is to set a standard for other Albanian universities, and to be well-known even abroad. My colleagues and I consider ourselves as part of this great mission.

Scientific research, as an integrated part of the mission of this University will improve over the course of time. The scientific research accomplished at the university will serve the regional development via applied research, technology and innovation. By incorporating both the best academic content available and our current capacity for success, we will  turn our university into a powerful center of research and development in the region of Korça. To accomplish this mission, our University will offer several services and will collaborate with the business communities, local government and other donor organizations. It will contribute a lot via consultancy, applied scientific research and other services in the fields of agriculture, agribusiness, the protection of environment and the administration of the territory, the development of tourism and management of social pedagogical studies, public health etc…
